I lodge beneath the five pines, lonely and joyless. The farmer's autumn toil is bitter; the neighbor woman pounds rice at night in the cold. Kneeling, she serves rice of wild rice; the moonlight brightens her plain plate. I am ashamed, like the washerwoman who fed Han Xin—thrice I thank her, but cannot eat.
