"The Watchful Pursuer" is about an unrelenting focus: wherever the gaze falls, evil cannot slip away. With the sparsest red lines the artist renders Zhong Kui's gaze, reminding us that true strength lies not in noise but in constant, clear-sighted vigilance that guards the clarity of heart and home. Painted in the spare freehand (xieyi) manner, the work uses bold, economical strokes in which ink and cinnabar range from dense to pale, bringing Zhong Kui to life in just a few assured marks.
