In ink with gentle pale color, Zhong Kui appears solid and warm, a smile filling his face, cradling his talisman-weapon as though holding an auspicious blessing. Wide robes and sleeves, standing firmly at the center; rounded, genial brushwork without sharpness suffuses the whole with harmony and a reassuring sense of shelter.

"A Home Blessed with Great Fortune" draws on the old custom of hanging Zhong Kui in the home to guard it and gather good fortune. The artist paints the demon-quelling deity as a kindly guardian: with him keeping watch within, evil stays out and blessing abides. It embodies the simplest, deepest Chinese wish for the household—peace and safety are themselves the greatest fortune. Painted in the spare freehand (xieyi) manner, the work uses bold, economical strokes in which ink and cinnabar range from dense to pale, bringing Zhong Kui to life in just a few assured marks. The figure is delightfully exaggerated yet disciplined, weaving a contemporary, good-humored spirit into the folk tradition of the demon-quelling, blessing-bringing deity—at once solemn and playful.
