Five Hundred Arhats · No.320 The Venerable Golden Wealth and Bliss

'Golden wealth and bliss' means body and mind bear golden marks, the fruit of merit abundant and ever at ease, the blissful fruit ripened through pure wholesome action; the name marks one whose good karma bears fruit in wealth, bliss and peace. The venerable looks fulfilled and at ease, possessing the abundance of good karma's bliss, perfect merit-fruit, body and mind at peace, the wondrous fruit ripened through pure wholesome action.

Painted by Li Zongyi in the freehand Chinese ink (xieyi) tradition, the brushwork is fluent and the ink tones layered from dense to pale, capturing the arhat’s spirit in a few assured strokes. The blank paper itself breathes Zen; figure and spirit are one, blending monastic solemnity with the literati’s ease. Each of the Five Hundred Arhats bears its own name and practice, uniting faith, art and collectibility — an original, non-reproducible hand-painted work.
