In 'Samantabhadra practice', Samantabhadra is the bodhisattva of the virtue of principle and action, and practice is the vast wondrous conduct such as his ten great vows; the name marks one who emulates Samantabhadra's great action, adorning bodhi through endless gates of practice. The venerable has the air of a great being with a vast look, possessing the breadth of Samantabhadra's great action, the ten great vows, revering all beings, moving to bodhi through endless wondrous practice.

Painted by Li Zongyi in the freehand Chinese ink (xieyi) tradition, the brushwork is fluent and the ink tones layered from dense to pale, capturing the arhat’s spirit in a few assured strokes. The blank paper itself breathes Zen; figure and spirit are one, blending monastic solemnity with the literati’s ease. Each of the Five Hundred Arhats bears its own name and practice, uniting faith, art and collectibility — an original, non-reproducible hand-painted work.
